In the meantime, we’re recruiting new writers – unpaid, naturally (we don’t make any money here at Green Pepper, it’s about saving the planet not lining our pockets). If you share our views and have something to say, on environmental topics or issues, drop us a line – we want to hear from you!

Guest writers with their own blogs, looking to increase traffic and PR, are welcome. As are writers without a platform of their own who would like to see their words published.

What’s in it for you?

Basically, you get to help save the planet and all life on it! You get to share your views and inspire others to live a greener and more eco-friendly life, as well as the influence and prestige that comes from writing for a highly respected top-ranking and authoritative eco/green/enviro website.

The only thing we don’t do here at Green Pepper is push products, green or any other colour. There’s enough of that about online and we’d rather encourage readers to reduce their consumption of the planet’s precious and finite resources than increase it!

I didn’t know anything about sustainability and eco-living until I began working for a recycling machinery distributor in 2004. It was an eye-opener. Seeing the back end of consumerism, the dirty little secret of the materials process, was a huge reality jolt.

MRF’s, waste transfer stations, landfill and composting sites are smelly, but fascinating – at least they were to me. Aggregate recycling (400 million tonnes/year) and composting (3.6 million tonnes/year) became my favourites.

The fascination, I admit, was in the big machines that did the task. I started to realise just how efficient we could be. Not just in our recycling process but in our buying processes too.

I stopped worshipping at the Cathedrals of Consumerism and am aiming for a simpler life. A life closer to the natural world, where play is a part of every day – unstructured outdoor time, so necessary for a balanced life.

Joining the Green Pepper team is very exciting; becoming more active in the Green Community, growing and working together, expanding the grass roots changes that are occuring all around us.

Yes, we need to be more resource efficient. Yes, we need to get back to a simpler, more natural lifestyle. Yes, we have a challenge to face in Climate Change.

We are One Earth, one community. Working together we can move any mountain. Even if there are 400 million tonnes of it!

Over the coming weeks and months I hope to bring the same level of informative and entertaining articles for which Green Pepper is renowned. If you have any suggestions or comments, do let me know. I look forward to hearing more from the Green Pepper readers.

Firstly, I apologise to our regular readers for the lack of posts here during the past few weeks. It’s been a busy time and I’ve neglected Green Pepper due to other committments.

I was beginning to wonder if I’d ever be able to resume things but wasn’t about to abandon it after all the hard work to establish Green Pepper as a great source of information about eco-friendly living and environmental issues.

Twitter power!

Then something happened. The power of Twitter to bring people together, in the real world as well as the virtual, brought me in to contact with another resourceful, environmentally-minded person looking to inspire others to live more sustainably.

That person was Karen Wilde of Wildely Creative – hence the title of the post – and during our conversations and ‘tweet-ups’ (Twitter for meet-ups, for the uninitiated!) it became apparent that Green Pepper had found a new owner/editor.

A new take on things

I’ll leave Karen to introduce herself in the next post. Suffice to say, the future for Green Pepper looks brighter than ever. I’m sure Karen will bring a fresh new take on things.

There’ll be plenty more ideas for eco-friendly living, plus news and views on the most pressing environmental issues of the day – everything that you’ve come to expect from Green Pepper. And then some.

It’s been a blast!

I’m signing off and handing over to Karen but, before I go, I’d just like to thank you ALL for your encouraging comments over the past year. It’s been a blast! I know you’ll continue to give Green Pepper your support into the future, and I wish Karen much success with everything she does here.

Wishing you all a happy, healthy, peaceful and prosperous new year – and hoping this year will be greener for each and everyone.

If, like many people, you make New Year resolutions, please consider the three most important things you can do this year:

1. Reduce what you buy, and consume less of our fragile planet’s finite resources.
2. Reuse what you can when you can and give away stuff you no longer want or use.
3. Recycle what you can’t reuse or give away, to avoid simply dumping it in landfill.

Sincere apologies to all our readers for the lack of new posts over the past couple of days.

I’ve had my brother here, from Oregon in the USA, on a visit to see his family back in the UK.

If I was really well organised I would have prepared a couple of articles in advance, ready to post yesterday and today. But, the truth is, I’m not that well organised (yet) and am only just getting into the swing of daily updates, in addition to my full-time work as a freelance graphic designer.
